meet Olivia

Olivia Rose Umstead is the 2020 recipient of the Academy of American Poets Jean Burden Poetry Prize. Aside from her publications, her writing has received local, state wide, and international accolade. Her poems have even appeared on the Miss California stage. Her debut collection, How Poetry Sounds, is available for purchase. 

She holds a degree in creative writing from the University of Redlands but she believes her journey started many years before, when she began writing stories in kindergarten about fairy tales and far off lands. As she got older, her fairy tales became people and places in her own life.
